By necessity, we will find ourselves thinking in both litres
and gallons as well as in metres and feet. All the information
you need to choose your pump is here. If you talk metres,
then all your measurements will be metric and we will use
litres. If you use feet, then all your measurements will be
in feet and we will use gallons. So, some basic facts:
 |
 |
|
There are 3.3 feet in 1
metre.
So to change metres to feet multiply by 3.3.
And to change feet into metres divide by 3.3.
1 Cubic Metre of water
is 1000 Litres.
1 Cubic Foot of water is 61/4 Gallons.
To see how many litres
or gallons you have, just multiply the length
by the width by the average depth. Your answer
will be in cubic metres if you used metres and
cubic feet if you used feet.
Cubic metres x 1000 = Litres
Cubic feet x 61/4 = Gallons

'My pond's not rectangular',
I hear you say. No problem. Just draw your pond
on a piece of paper then draw a rectangle around
the greatest measurements of length and width.
Now ask yourself, what
percentage of the rectangle does your pond occupy.
If you decide that your pond takes up, for example,
75% of the rectangle, then you should multiply
your earlier volume by 0.75. Your answer will
be pretty accurate.
