One of the greatest frustrations associated with pond keeping,
is the constant need to keep algae growth at bay. It is our
opinion that, whilst chemicals are readily available and generally
work quite well, the use of ultra violet to kill algae, is
by far the most efficient and long lasting. An ultra violet
clarifier is a sealed unit that contains an ultra violet bulb
and is fitted outside the pond and immediately before the
biological filter. As pond water, directly from the pump,
passes through the ultra violet light the algae spores are
killed and fused together to be collected in the medium of
the biological filter. When an ultra violet clarifier is used,
pond water should be circulated once every two hours, in order
to allow the lamp sufficient time to act on the algae spores.
Ultra violet clarifiers are available as an addition to a
biological filter or may be purchased as 'combined' units
where the biological filter and the ultra violet clarifier
are manufactured as one unit. We offer you a variety of both
types of unit. (All the units that we offer are water clarifiers
not sterilisers. Sterilising water, can destroy 'good' bacteria,
thereby destroying the fish's natural immunity to disease).
